The apostolic command is that the church collection, or offering, should be collected when the church gathers for worship on the first day of the week (1 Cor 16:1-2). When Christians gather in person with the local church for public worship, they are to put something aside into the common fund (the "storing up") according to how God has blessed them. While special gifts may be given to the church at other times, regular giving to the church (especially by its members) should not be disconnected from the public worship of the gathered church.
